Pitch, Context & Trivia

Radial is a 2D speedrun oriented platformer in which you will be able to use teleportation portals. Be ready for acrobatic moves, fights against creatures, hidden challenges and race against the clock! Will you master the portals powers and take up the challenge?
Radial is my team first "long" project, we spent 9 weeks during the production phase of our first bachelor year, then we decided to spend our holidays' time to improve the game, double the amount of levels and ship it on Steam, for free of course! This was a wonderful experience, we learnt a lot, especially about team work, production, milestone, deadline managment, build frequence (never build before the milestone haha), shipping procedures, and game development of course! Radial was present on the 2019 Paris Games Week too by the way!

As a Game & Level Designer

  • full level design process: schemas, blockouts, tests, graphs integrations
  • blockouts with illustrator during the first weeks, then using a custom editor developped by my team
  • after the school phase (early July 2017) according to testers feedbacks and our feeling about level duration and difficulty we decided to split all levels in 2 shorter levels, so I reworked existing levels while adding some new levels too
  • tutorial design (a lot of testing and balancing)
  • 9 levels from the easiest to the hardest
  • difficulty curve balancing, not very progressive because we decided to show the panel of difficulty that Radial could offer
  • working on UI and control mapping on both controller and mouse/keyboard
  • milestones public presentations, speeches and gameplay live commentary (in english and french), in front of teacher, dozens of students and professional jury
